JK Dance Academy has been bringing the joy of dance to North London since 2003.
Founded by Jessica Hewitson, our goal has always been simple — to make dance fun, inclusive, and confidence-building for every child.
From our studios in Muswell Hill and Crouch End, we welcome more than 800 young dancers every week.
Whether a child wants to groove, perform, or just move with friends, we help them find their rhythm and their confidence — one step at a time.
meet jessica
Jessica Hewitson founded JK Dance Academy over 20 years ago with a clear vision — to make dance accessible, exciting and empowering for every child, while creating a sense of belonging and community.
Trained in ballet, tap, modern, street and commercial dance, Jessica spent her early career performing across the UK before discovering her true calling: teaching. She went on to earn professional teaching qualifications with the British Association of Teachers of Dance and began working with schools and community groups across London.
What started as a few after-school classes has grown into one of North London’s most vibrant dance academies. Jessica still leads from the studio floor, bringing her energy, warmth and professional experience into every class, so every student feels seen, heard, and valued.
She believes dance should build confidence as much as skill — and that the best results come when children feel safe, supported and inspired to express themselves in a place that feels like home.
Our team
Behind every JK class is a team of professional, dedicated instructors. From street and commercial to break, stage, and freestyle, our teachers bring their own flair while sharing the same mission: to help every dancer feel proud of what they can do.
Our instructors — including Antoine Thomas-Sturge, Dominique Tse, Dominic Simpson, Gemma McKay, Austin Bathgate, and Emma Seward — are all qualified, insured, and DBS-checked professionals who care deeply about each dancer’s progress and wellbeing.
Together, we create classes that are energetic, structured, and full of encouragement. Each teacher brings real industry experience, from stage and theatre work to choreography and performance coaching. Their mix of passion and professionalism means every student gets expert guidance — and the confidence to shine both in class and on stage.

what we offer
We run two main programmes:
- In-Studio Classes at our Muswell Hill and Crouch End studios — open to everyone who wants to learn, perform and grow.
- In-School Dance Programmes across London — bringing movement, confidence and fun directly into schools.
Our classes mix street, commercial, break, stage, and freestyle dance styles, giving every student a chance to explore, experiment and perform.
Dancers can also work towards accredited exams with the British Association of Teachers of Dance, progressing from beginner to advanced levels.
We believe performance is a vital part of every dancer’s journey. That’s why our students regularly take to the stage at local theatres, community events, and special showcases — from school shows to West End performances and Selhurst Park appearances. These moments build confidence, teamwork, and unforgettable memories that last long after the final bow.
our achievements
Over the years, JK dancers have performed on West End stages, at Selhurst Park, and at the Mayor’s Ceremony for Young Gifted Children. Our students have been invited to perform at community festivals, charity galas, and local theatre productions — often representing their schools and the academy with creativity and confidence.
Many of our dancers go on to study performing arts at college and university, join youth theatre groups, or take part in professional productions. Others return to JK as assistants or teachers, helping the next generation of young performers find their feet.
We’re proud to work with schools across ten London boroughs, giving thousands of children the chance to discover dance each year. From their first shuffle to their first solo, every child becomes part of the JK story.
